February 2010 – Acrylic on canvas, 80cm x 60cm
I painted this to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Antoine d’Abbadie . J’ai réalisé ce tableau pour les 200 ans de la naissance d’Antoine d’Abbadie.
The château d’Abbadie was built by Viollet le Duc between 1864 & 1879.

Beautiful new paintings Sonya – I want to walk into this one – I like the simplicity and the dramatic upwards sweep to the chateau. And the stark bare tree really makes the painting for me.
Thank-you Sarah. I like how trees look in winter & the spaces you see between the branches.
Wonderful use of sheep to lead my eye!
This is a beautiful composition, Sonya!
Thank-you Leslie
I’m glad you think that the sheep help with the distancing, I was hoping they would.
I’m so excited. You haven’t posted for a while and now there’s a plethora of your paintings to look at.
I really, really like this one. You have such a distinct style.
The sheep lead the eye up to the house, but I almost expect to also see Christina of Andrew Wyeth’s “Christina’s World” sitting somewhere on the lawn looking up at the house.
Carol – you’re very kind & far too flattering !!
Thank goodness, I thought we lost had you for awhile!
Your paintings absolutely mesmerizes me, the colors and style are amazing!
Hi there. It’s true I tend to get rather sporadic with my blog & everyone elses- it’s hard to fit in doing everything- but I enjoy being part of the community we have going on here – it’s good to feel supported & appreciated. Thank-you.
absolutely beautiful…as peaceful as living on our sheepfarm in Bidarray.
Merci beaucoup -Nice to hear from someone local. You live in a very beautiful area.
This one is fablous! So vibrant.
Thanks again. I must say that one of the first things that struck me when I arrived in the Basque Country many years ago was the brilliant green. It seemed so unusual after passing through all the golden grass in France at the end of the summer.
[...] Ever since I discovered my inner 18th century French princess—mind you–a princess who lives on a rather large country estate. I’ve been drawn to the idea of what life in the country, surrounded by rolling hills of green, spattered with flocks of sheep might have been like. Maybe like this painting by Sonya Chasey? [...]
