When I was painting this it was the first picture of the year & perhaps because of the mountain (which is situated in the Spanish part of the Basque Country & seen from many places in the French Basque Country) at some point I drifted into thinking about the crisis, in particular in Spain & wishing there could be something positive sweeping in to change things this year for people there.

I felt I wanted to paint something representing hope for Spain, though of course it’s totally my personal symbolism & obviously wouldn’t be read like that by anyone else!
